The Cost of a Toothbrush

Have you noticed how expensive toothbrushes have gotten?  The prices keep going up and up, and the cost is supposedly justified by superfluous design changes.  The changes include bolder colors, really flexible or contorted handles and a variety of colors and lengths of the actual bristles.

All this marketing and hype to make you think you are getting something special - the gift of a lifetime for your teeth.  But soon you realize that the longevity and usefulness of the brush is less than the previous simple designs.  Reminds me of an Obama program; all hype and no hope or change!

So last night at Wal-mart, to save a buck or two, I bought an Equate medium (mediano) toothbrush for $2.00.  You might recognize the Equate name brand as Wal-mart's generic label.  Toothbrush marketing hype:  textured tongue cleaner, multi level bristles, quality guaranteed.

I used the Equate toothbrush for the first time this morning - and only one bristle fell out!  Final judgment still pending.
