Fat That Burns Energy

I recently wrote an article discussing ways to increase your basal metabolism rate as an aid to losing weight.  One of the suggestions is to turn off the heat in your house.  Do you think it will work?  It is not a new idea and more than a few have considered it.  If I am someplace cold, doesn't my body have to burn more energy to keep me warm?

It turns out that in one sense, your body will attempt to do just that, but there is a catch. It works when the person has 'brown fat.'  All babies have brown fat because it is important for their ability to maintain the correct body temperature.  By the time we are adults, most of us lose that special fat, but not all.  Approximately 30% of the adult community still has some.

A study was conducted recently in Japan and two groups of men were subjected to cold.  One group had the brown fat, the other did not.  What do you think happened?  As was expected, weight loss for those with the brown fat was easier.  There is still much to learn.

I can only hope that I have some of the 'good stuff'!

Government control of Internet - Egypt

So what happens to Internet traffic when the government says shut it off?  The picture below shows exactly that for Egypt.  With all the riots and strife going on in the country, Mubarak ordered that it be shut down (with just a few exceptions).  You can see in the time period during the unrest that traffic had really picked up. Internet service in Egypt essentially comes through four companies, so the process was not too difficult.  I wonder what the same kind of map would show for the U.S?rest

Meanwhile, it appears that Robert Gibbs tweeted that Egypt should put the internet back on:

"'Very concerned about violence in Egypt - government must respect the rights of the Egyptian people & turn on social networking and internet"

Elsewhere, a snag for Obama

Obama's End of the Road

Although Obama has been able to avoid thus far the cry of the people to demonstrate that he is a natural born citizen of the U.S., there is a barricade across the tracks and obama is heading directly at it.  When the Federal government has no interest in doing a simple verification, Obama is learning that the States are more than willing.

This article will explain what is going on.  When I wrote the article I was under the impression that  only five states were taking up the challenge.  It turns out that there are now 10 states.

Thanks for reading.

The Obama "Kill Switch"

So how much power are you willing to give obama over the life of the country?  How about if he is given the power by law to shut down a list of computer networks and systems as he chooses, and at the same time forbid any judicial review of his actions.  And he wants to reach across the aisle and work together!

There is more here.

A Snag for Obama 2012

Looks like Obama may have to cough up that birth certificate yet.  When the Federal government won't do the job, then you look to the States to jump in.  Arizona, Montanna, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Texas are working on legislation that will require documented nationality, place of birth, and age before allowing to run for office.

You can read more here.

Say No to Bipartisanship!

Here is a statement on bipartisanship from Obama's SOTU address last night.

"I believe we can. I believe we must. That’s what the people who sent us here expect of us. With their votes, they’ve determined that governing will now be a shared responsibility between parties. New laws will only pass with support from Democrats and Republicans. We will move forward together, or not at all – for the challenges we face are bigger than party, and bigger than politics."

This is hilarious!  After Pelosi and Reid shut the GOP out of most important congressional work for two years, the GOP is now supposed to embrace 'working together'.  That is ridiculous, especially if a good number of the GOP are wimps that won't stand up for America.  If moving forward means doing what obama wants, then it is time to stand still.  This is no time for compromise.  This is the time to shut the democratic machine down.  Do it now!

Were you so fortunate ..

as to miss obama's State of the Union address?  I hope so.  I saw about 30 seconds of the main stream media's introductory comments and had my fill.  The television was shut off at that point.

Everything obama was going to try to mutter was already known.  Just like his recent efforts to act like a moderate politician and a reasonable president, it's all lies.  If you are gullible enough to believe obama, then do us all a favor and never vote again.

Even the liberals know that obama has just been making gestures.  Only the right will be fooled, again!

The Elegance of the Hedgehog

Sorry to disappoint you, but I gave up on this one.  I started to listen to "The Elegance of the Hedgehog", written by Muriel Barbery and I decided on the first CD that this one was not for me.  I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the book.  To be honest, I'm curious enough about some things that I will probably borrow the book again.

But, for right now it did not work.  Maybe I just got off to a bad start.  Maybe I just wasn't focused.  The reader is excellent, but in this case maybe there were too many French sounding names and places.

No doubt this book contains an interesting story:  consider a 54 yr old, rather eccentric woman, a highly intelligent 12 year old girl and a visitor from Japan.

Don't let me know how it turns out!

A note on life insurance

Many people have been talked into buying term life insurance because it costs so much less. It is much less expensive than normal whole life policies.  But then the term policy expires and you are trying to replace it 20 years later.  Now the term premium is not so cheap.  Was the term insurance really a good idea?

The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag

The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag

by:  Alan Bradley

This is the second book by Alan Bradley in the Flavia De Luce series, and it was a very enjoyable read.  Flavia is only 11 years old and she has the perfect mind for solving mysteries, but her first love is a chemistry lab which she inherited from a relative.  She is quite a package and has proven more than once she is up for the challenge.  But let me warn you, she knows countless ways to apply her knowledge of chemistry to accomplish your demise.  Be careful!  Someone has made up the following rhyme about Flavia:

"Sanctified cyanide
Super-quick arsenic
Higgledy-piggledy
Into the Soup.
Put out the mourning lamps
Call for coffin clamps
Teach them to trifle with
Flavia de Luce!"

The author, Alan Bradley, does an excellent job writing through the eyes of an eleven year old.  Although Flavia is far brighter than most her age, she is still quite human and is totally normal when she must put up with the barbs from two older sisters.   Look for "The Weed That Strings ..."  I do not think you will be disappointed.

The Flavia website

For your info, this is the entire series as far as I know.  Yes, the first in the series was excellent also, but I've got four more to go!

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag
A Red Herring Without Mustard
Seeds of Antiquity
Death in Camera
The Nasty Light of Day

Time for Romance

Has it been a while since you have seen a good romantic movie?  I came across a list of five top-notch romantic movies that you should check out.  I have seen three of these and know they are of very good quality.

Maybe the story line of the movie, or even the romance will give you a better outlook on life.  Even if you have already seen these five, there is much to learn the second time through.

Have fun.

Green Tea: anti-cancer components

You have probably heard that there are numerous health benefits available to those who drink green tea.  How about catechins and anti-oxidants?  Even more specifically, drinking green tea can reduce the incidence of cancer.

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a strong anti-oxidant found in green tea.  Drinking green tea will help prevent these types of cancer:

  • colon
  • breast
  • prostrate
  • lung
  • ovarian
  • bladder
  • leukemia
  • melanoma
Any reduction in likelihood of these cancers is certainly worth a mindful effort to drink green tea.

Still No Birth Certificate!

A few months ago Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie, Hawaii, made a bunch of noise about how he was going to put the issue of obama's missing/hidden birth certificate to rest.  But, lo and behold, he has failed!  On this issue, even a democrat cannot get access to the missing document.  He is merely stopped by a democrat further up the chain.

There is no good reason for obama to hide his birth certificate, other than it contain information that people would not like.  If he were a mere Hollywood type, he might be doing it to get attention.  But the bumbling basketball player has plenty of attention drawn to himself by his pathetic performance in office.

Let the record reflect, there is still good reason to believe that obama is not even legally qualified to be President.

Big TSA Adventure - Round 2

Yesterday I got to fly home.  I have already shared that my original TSA adventure when I left home 3 days ago was nothing other than a near miss.  Well, the return was no repeat of that!

I flew out of Atlanta in the morning, and had allowed enough extra time that I was not feeling time pressure.  As before, I had resolved that it would not be such a big deal to go through the body image scanner.  Let's just do it, and get it done.

Security was moving along well, and once I had managed to get my things in 4 gray tubs (including the belt, for the first time in my life), I was ready for a scan job.

I did it. I went into the scanner, raised my arms and tried to smile pretty.  Moments later the TSA agent indicated that I could step out of the scanner, but I could go no further.  They just held me there, at one step out of the scanner.  No explanation.  My guess was that they were trying to avoid any congestion at the conveyor belt where people in front of me were still gathering their parts and pieces.

I waited a few more minutes, and then it seemed that they were motioning for me to move on.  False alarm, they stopped me after I got about one step.

They then proceeded to have a discussion with me to confirm which gray tubs were mine.  I pointed out the four that were ready for me to pick up.  The TSA agent that had been holding me back said I should follow these two other agents, and they were at that time scooping up my gray tubs.  Away we go to the little back room.

This was really weird, and I didn't know what was going on.  Once we were in the little room and the door was closed.  They explained that the scan of my groin area had not been clear, so they would have to do a pat down.  They asked to see my boarding pass.  Then they asked if I had any medical devices inside or outside of my body.  Finally they detailed the exact procedure they would be using for the pat down.

Let me tell you.  I really cannot complain about the two TSA agents and how they did there job.  They did exactly what they said they were going to do and I never felt there was any unnecessary or excessive touching.  The pat down demonstrated that I was clean.  What was going on with the scanner.   I really had no unique aspect and was wearing the same type of clothes as 99% of the men that go through there.

The TSA agents did not have any idea why the scan would not have been clear  I will never know.  Even though there have been plenty of people who have had their personal rights violated by TSA agents, all I saw today was real people trying to do the job they have been instructed to do.

By the way, if you were hoping to get  a copy of my scanner photo, it might be impossible.  According to the one TSA agent, the picture of one person is eliminated when the next person comes through.  I do not necessarily believe that, but who knows?

Yes, airport security still is a hassle.  Addition of the body scanner only makes it a little more so, and I hope next time the scanner will work.

Pelosi can only peddle myths

Nancy Pelosi, proving to all that she is empty in the head and an idiot in the mouth was recently busy trying to convince UAW members of how great a job the democrats have done in the last two years.

I will mention just two of her points here.  First, she was expressing great pride and satisfaction that they had kept unemployment below 16%.  There is no basis for this arbitrary number, neither was their mention of the fact that obama promised something like 8% if the stimulus bill was passed.

The second amazing comment was that the cash for clunkers program was an amazing success..  Obviously falsehood, for car sales data after the hoopla cleared showed no benefit to the program.

The fact that Nancy Pelosi needs to make up these fairy tales only confirms that the democrats under obama have done nothing for the country.  They have nothing that even looks like a beneficial success that will please the American people.

In light of the audience she was speaking to, I wonder if there was one person with enough integrity or intelligence to call Pelosi on these lies.

Gov. Kasich has it right

Some citizens of Ohio are working hard to give a bad name to Governor Kasich, but low and behold they are merely revealing themselves as something bad.  Their big gripe is that when John Kasich picked the 20 members of his cabinet, which is his business to do, he did not honor the political correctness mandate of diversity.  Good for you, Governor Kasich.

What the governor did is evaluate candidates and make his best selection as to who could help him with this big job.  He did that, and anyone living in Ohio should appreciate that.

After 20 people were selected by John Kasich for who they are, what they have accomplished and what talents they bring to the job, these democrats want to sound forth in the hateful language of political correctness.  They actually expect John Kasich to fill these important decisions based on nationality and skin color.  That is the kind of warped thinking that readily identifies the racist.  A racist would have us believe that the right thing to do, is to pick people for these important positions based on the skin color.  That is totally racist, totally racist.  Yes, I said totally racist.

John Kasich should continue doing what he needs to and keep up the good work.

My Big TSA Adventure

A couple of days ago I had my first flight since the TSA grope-fest started.  I was fully expecting the works as I went through security, and had decided that I would choose the scanner over the grope.  Putting all principle issues aside, I figure what could they really do with a picture of me?  It's not like someone would really enjoy it.

So, it is just about my turn to go through the full body image scanner and the TSA agent announces that it is time to rotate.  Rotate what?  I don't know.  What I do know is they blocked off the body image scanner and directed us through the old type of scanner.  So my moment of fame, practically a done deal, was snatched away from me at the last minute.

Now it is interesting in a time when these scanners are so necessary for security, that we can just shut them down for some administrative convenience.  Oh, well.

I am happy that I did not buy any TSA proof underwear for my big adventure.  Never heard of these?  See the following:

"Not only will your modesty be protected, but these undergarments are also made of materials that will shield you from unwanted radiation.  Thus far TSA is denying that the radiation is an issue, but some studies seem to indicate otherwise."

Who Is Obama?

I am sure they did not intend to do so, but today USA Today made quite a statement about Obama in a picture that was on the front page of the paper.

So, the question is, Who is obama?  "Two years into his historic presidency, pragmatism makes him tough to define."

Well, is he really tough to define?  Some people say a picture is worth a thousand words, and the picture screams one thing - obama is black, and of course that is why the reference to the historic presidency.  We heard it all through the election.  Skin color was his only qualification.

What else have we learned in two years?  He is black. He is Muslim. He is socialist.  He is foolish.  He is arrogant.  He is a loser. He is anti-American.

For all who fell for the historical candidate, hope you are enjoying the ride.

Signs of a healthy blog

I am in the process of learning about blogs and what makes a really good blog.  Of course, traffic is important, but I am talking about the actual content and layout of a blog.

Recently, I came across a blog that I had not seen before, but it really strikes me as being well thought out and executed.

The focus of the blog is on health and nutrition.  Now I am no expert in these topics, but I could see after reading several posts that there is really solid content in this blog.  Visitors to this site will not leave empty-minded.

The blog has an attractive layout; the header is graphic and pleasing.  There is a 3-column layout, with the content posted in the larger (middle) column.

In addition to the actual content, I see tools to help the reader, such as a search box and a translate box.  There is also a calendar that allows you to go back and check on any archived posts just by picking the day.  Important to building a community of readers, there is a box where readers can register and login.  Apparently registered users are then given the opportunity to comment.

Using those two side columns, as well as some center space in between posts, there is good use of ads.  Yes, ads - even bloggers have to eat.  There is a good variety of ads, and once again the overall appearance is eye-catching.  Obviously the developer of this site knows the ins and outs of putting ads on a blog or web site.

Others know more about blogging than I do, but I thought this blog was noteworthy.

No Buggey in Jamaica

That means that homosexuality is against the law in Jamaica.  Something the US should have, for sure.  At least the prison term with hard labor is limited to 10 years.

Jamaican criminal code prohibits sex between men, as is the case in much of the English-speaking Caribbean.

Article 76 of the Offences Against the Person Act states:
Whosoever shall be convicted of the abominable crime of buggery, committed either with mankind or with any animal, shall be liable to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for a term not exceeding ten years.

Article 77 adds:
Whosoever shall attempt to commit the said abominable crime, or shall be guilty of any assault with intent to commit the same, or of any indecent assault upon any male person, shall be guilty of a misdemeanour, and being convicted thereof, shall be liable to be imprisoned for a term not exceeding seven years, with or without hard labour.

Article 79 further states:
Any male person who, in public or private, commits, or is a party to the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be guilty of a misdemeanour, and being convicted thereof shall be liable at the discretion of the court to be imprisoned for a term not exceeding two years, with or without hard labour.

Diamonds, anyone?

I came across a few quotes about diamonds.

Some are popular and I have heard of them.  Maybe you have too?

===========================================================

A kiss on the hand may be quite continental, But Diamonds are a girl's best friend.
Leo Robin

Big girls need big diamonds.
Elizabeth Taylor

Diamonds are nothing more than chunks of coal that stuck to their jobs.
Malcolm Forbes

No pressure, no diamonds.
Thomas Carlyle

When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.
Peter Marshall

Sarah Palin Map

What the democrats tried to promote as a target or bulls-eye, is actually a surveyor's symbol.

See how the whole issue dies when you look at the facts.  Pathetic lies from the democrats do not last!

Observations about Tuscon Tragedy

I came across an article that compares the recent tragedy in Tuscon with the earlier tragedy at Fort Hood.  What is interesting to note is how different the reaction of obama is between the two instances.  Obama's uncaring response at Fort Hood was marked by a shout-out.   Two of the reasons for this difference might be, 1. Obama's general non-support of US troops; 2.  The most important thing with the Fort Hood incident was to not offend any Muslims.

Comparison of Tragedy

In another article, the author wants to show how the American public shares in the blame for the Tuscon incident because of how politically screwed up the country is.  There is a lot of truth in what he says, but I think it is important to remember that the politics happened after the murders.  The gunman was not into politics.

Google Affiliate Network

I am in the beginning stages of learning about Google Affiliate Network.  As I understand it, Google Affiliate Network (GAN) will give me the opportunity to post ads/links on my blog sites that are related to certain businesses.  The advantage for the company is free advertising and exposure.  The benefit to me is that I will be rewarded if someone makes a purchase through my link.  I have known of other affiliate programs, but I have never actually joined one.

Ideally a website or blog would have a whole lot more traffic than I have to make this process work.  Just the same, I am willing to give it a try if there is a company willing to have me.  I am not sure what risk they have if my site generates exposure, but no purchases.  At this point my primary blog is more shotgun approach than being a niche.  On-line marketing is easier with a niche blog.

Have no fear!  No worries!  This first rejection I have received will only spur me on.  I know there are some good opportunities out there.

The Better HTML Link

It was such a help to learn the little bit of HTML language necessary to create the basic link.  Although Blogger has a link tool built in, I have had many opportunities to create links elsewhere.
This is the basic link that has served me so well.  It opens foxnews.com in the current window.

Normal hyperlink to foxnews.com

Fox News

Some would say that this format is not the best for a blogger, because when the reader clicks on that link, they will actually leave my web page, and they may not be back.  I can use the following code to create a link that will open in a new window, which when closed puts the reader right back at my site, where they started.

The following graphic shows the code for each case.

What is Obama thinking?

Once again, the wonderful obama makes it clear that he knows nothing about international politics.  In his arrogance, he feels a freedom to snub any country he wants.  Today he managed to snub Great Britain again.  Obama had this glowing report for France:

Mr Obama said: 'We don’t have a stronger friend and stronger ally than Nicolas Sarkozy, and the French people.'

How could he say that?  Certainly things have been going better with France in recent years, but it was Tony Blair alone who faithfully stood with President Bush for eight years following 9/11.  What does Obama think he is accomplishing by dissing the British people?

Sarah Palin - No Blame

Today, Sarah Palin made a public statement regarding the recent shooting tragedy in Arizona. Shortly after the smell of gun powder cleared the air, America heard the democrats trying to place blame for the incident.  They were quick to point to Sarah Palin because they greatly dislike her.

Although she did not have to respond to these worthless allegations, she chose to do so anyhow.  This woman has courage and a heart for America that is truly admirable.  Even if you are not convinced she should be a candidate for President, you must admit that she readily stands for those things that have made America great.

After reading the transcript of her comments, I was struck with the thought that those criticizing her could not even write these things, yet alone believe them.  Check out the links below and see if you agree.

Transcript of Sarah Palin speech regarding the Arizona tragedy

Here is the video of her speech

A Few Points of Emphasis from Ohio Gov. John Kasich

Below are excerpts from the John Kasich Inaugural Address given on 1/10/11.  The excerpts are in quotes, anything else is my comment.  This speech is important, it sets the stage for our new Governor and we will want to remember some of these for future comparison.

Tribute to his wife
(what a beautiful expression of love)

"You know, my wife Karen is -- as we all know, she's just a beautiful woman. But that's not really what drives her or drives me in my relationship with her. See, we're great friends and great buddies, and we share so many experiences; from hiking up in the state parks to trying to take care of our daughters, to exercising, to praying, and just trying to connect with our friends and our family all over the country.
Sweetheart, I love you. You're the most important thing in my life. Thank you, babe."

Acknowledgment of supporters who have held him up.
"To my supporters, you know, from 1977 on, you've put me on your shoulders. There's no way that Johnny Kasich could have come here from McKees Rocks and gotten anywhere near where I've been in my political life without these supporters."

It is not about me
"And I do not report to special interests under any circumstances. And I want you all to understand something: I can never work to advance myself. I will not work to advance myself. My future or my self-interest is not acceptable."

Lift Ohio

'My only purpose, my only passion in all of this has been to lift Ohio, to make us competitive again, and to create jobs for our families. Because when our families have jobs, they have hope. They have dreams. And they have strength. It is my only purpose and my only passion. And when I wake up every morning, I'll say my prayers, I'll hug my family, and I will focus on Ohio's economy. Nothing, nothing can stand in our way.

Not ashamed of his faith or the gospel
(praise and adoration of what God has done, with a humble heart and even willing to quote D.L. Moody)

"He has opened doors all of my life. The Lord has. He has pushed me over the mountain this time. I don't know why, but I have no doubt that he has. I've spent a large amount of my life trying to figure out how he works.
I got a message one day driving up—over by the Hoover Reservoir. It wasn't a telegram. It wasn't a phone call. It wasn't a voice. But it was clear. "Stop trying to figure it out, I'm not going to tell you."
[LAUGHTER]
But here's what I do know: He expects his servants to use their talents. He expects all of us, because all of us have been created with a special talent. The key to life is to use those talents, even when at times it seems daunting and it seems impossible. But boy, I'll tell you what, no pounding on the chest. No pointing in the sky. He wants us always to remember where these talents came from. He reminds us that no one person is superior to any other person because in his eyes, all are equal.
You know, sometimes I see the scrub lady, and I realize that in the next life, she's likely to have a bigger crown than I could ever dream of. Don't go past them quickly; you could be passing an angel. Quiet reflection is necessary every day so as not to get lost.
D. L. Moody wrote about a Civil War general who was facing a huge battle. He prayed for two hours. His subordinates said to him, "How could you spend two hours praying before this big battle?" He said, "How could I not." Prayer is necessary.
You know, I so loved the memories of my family visiting Ohio. My uncle Harry, cousin Harry's father, used to tell me when we went to Vermilion and we passed that Pennsylvania line into Ohio, "Johnny, we've reached the Promise Land.""

The Enemy of Status Quo
"They have a great legacy. Our enemy is not our fertile farmlands or our vibrant family-oriented suburbs. Our enemy, our enemy is the status quo. The status quo, the dark side of human nature that shuts down dreams and basks in fear. The status quo, the dark side of human nature that shuts down dreams. Our enemies are those who selfishly look out only for themselves. The last gasp of air in the coal mine, I want mine. And they forget that we are all in this together. Don't be selfish.
Our enemies are those who refuse to recognize the power of teamwork. They refuse to help raise the bar. And as our mother used to tell us, Donna, raise the bar. Make the world better for the fact that we came this way. The people who refuse the power of team and refuse to raise the bar are weak. We will defeat them. We will defeat them together."

The great reach across the aisle
(we will see - compromise does not work when half the team wants to sink the ship and the other half wants to keep it afloat and improve its sailing)

"We are not Republicans. We are not Democrats. We are not liberals. And we are not conservatives. We are Ohioans. We are Buckeyes together."

Governor Kasich Inaugural Address

I was just able to read the inaugural address of Governor Kasich.  His words were good and solid, like music to my ears.  You can find a link to the speech on the Governor's home page.

Several things were made very clear in the speech, but I encourage you to read it for yourself.

Gov. Kasich loves his family and the many friends who have been faithful supporters.  Gov.Kirsch loves Ohio and would jump at a chance to serve Ohio.  Gov. Kasich has a good sense of humor.  Gov. Kasich is comfortable talking about his own beliefs and ideas; even his Christian faith.

Gov. Kasich is committed to making good things happen for the people of Ohio.  We all need to be ready to encourage him and his people.  Then, by God;s grace, Ohioans will have even more to be proud of.

Getting started with Governor Kasich

I'm not sure what will happen with the new Governor of Ohio, but I certainly intend to give him more than a fair chance.  I hope he truly is a conservative, but like many Republicans, he may have a bit of RINO blood coursing through his veins.  How much?  Well, time will tell.

If you also want to follow Governor John Kasich, you might as well start with his official link.

There you will find a welcome video from Kasich and Lt. Governor Mary Taylor.  You will also find the Inaugural Speech.

This is a real time for optimism.  Gov. Strickland had nothing to offer Ohio but the obama failure package - and now we need to be done with that.

Ohio has a new Governor!

John Kasich is sworn in as the new Governor of Ohio at 12:08 a.m. January 10, 2011.  He is joined by his wife, Karen, who is holding a special family Bible.  This is really good news for Ohio!  Democrat Strickland is now history, but I am sure the damage he has done will be with us for a while.

Strickland had made the comment that "his policies had positioned the state for strong economic growth."  Remembering that Strickland is a democrat, could he really have done that?  Yes, on the surface.

Here is how the Toledo Blade (democrat) characterized the current condition of the Ohio budget.  After pointing out that Ohio may have a surplus of $400,000,000, they go on to clarify, "that budget is held together with federal stimulus dollars and other one-time monies not expected to be available for the next budget, leaving estimates the state may face an $8 billion revenue shortfall in the next two-year budget."

This is exactly how the democrats work.  They line up the smoke and mirrors so the public thinks things are good, but when you look beneath the surface, you see it is not so.  Anybody who claims solid footing based on obama's borrowed trillions is foolhardy, at best.

So, let's celebrate the arrival of John Kasich, and see how he makes changes.

Pima County Sherrif

Following the Gabrielle Giffords shooting incident, the sheriff of Pima County, Clarence Dupnik had shared some good insight about blame and cause:

"I think the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business and what (we) see on TV and how our youngsters are being raised, that this has not become the nice United States of America that most of us grew up in. And I think it's time that we do the soul-searching," the sheriff said.

"I think we're the tombstone of the United States of America," Dupnik said of The Granite State, which a day earlier he called the “Mecca” of hatred and bigotry. "To try to inflame the public on a daily basis 24 hours a day, seven days a week has impact on people, especially who are unbalanced personalities to begin with."

The sheriff is right. The mind warping 'news' that the mainstream media puts out every days is harming everyone in our society.  Why do we even nee the mainstream media?  They are just as prone, if not more, to not report the truth as is information that is found on the Internet.

Gabrielle Giffords Shooting

The Gabrielle Giffords shooting incident is certainly a tragedy.  Apparently there are a total of six dead.  Republicans and people aligned with the TEA party certainly mourn this loss.  There appears to be a different sentiment from the democrats.  Looking at the news coverage, it appears that the democrats only care about making the shooting into a political opportunity.  They really don't care all that much about the lives lost.

Democrats are filled with hate toward the TEA party (the American people) and Sarah Palin.  Their hatred must be put forth at this time because they know the American people have had enough of the worst Congress and the worst President the country has ever seen.

Maybe the Federal government should take some blame for this violence in Arizona.  Seems that Arizona is the state that has been in the scope of the Feds with respect to illegal immigrants.

Maybe the leftist president and company can learn something from this tragedy, assuming they can stop campaigning long enough to notice.

I Need a Significant Blogger

I was just reading an article on Triond, and realized what a good thing it would be for me, as a beginning blogger, to be able to write as a guest for a significantly trafficked blog.  It would be a nice opportunity to share my writing with some other people, and also give them the opportunity to know of my blog.

However, I still have not narrowed this blog down to a specific niche, so maybe my content is going to cause anyone to come back a second time.  My natural way of blogging is to hit many different topics.  At times I have focused too much on politics, and I am trying not too do that.  Politics is a quite negative discussion, and I lose at least half my possible market every time I open my mouth.  This is not to say I won't open my mouth again.

So, I will keep in mind the significant blogger idea.  In the meantime, it seems good to post articles at different sites as a way to let people know where I am.

First Lady Boredom

I had previously written about First Lady Boredom  and how surprised I was at the number of views I was getting on this Triond article.  The number of views is now up to 550, so I did some checking.  It appears there is a definite reason why this article was so popular, and it is a reason that I cannot control.

I did a search for the article with google and I found that the link to the article was showing up on many different sites in Socyberty.  Triond had decided to include a link to my article in that small list of 'other articles' that appears on most sites.  That is why the article got so much coverage.  It was wonderful, and I sure hope it happens again.

Triond Comes to Blogger

Liberals get their panties in a bunch over this one

The liberals are freaking out over The Obama Prayer.  They cannot imagine a crime more cruel and hateful than somebody wishing Obama were out of office.  After all, he is the great one, the mighty one, the only source of hope and change.

I say they need to get over it.  Freedom of Speech belongs to Sgt. Matthew Neu, as well as Huffington Post.  What he said is certainly no worse than what the liberals have spoken about President Bush.  The liberals were pleased to endorse a book that had to deal with the death of President Bush.

To put it all in perspective, at least Sgt. Matthew Neu did not use the 'N' word, and he could have.

Shall we pray?

May his days be few;
may another take his office!

                 Psalm 109:8

The Obama Prayer

Thanks go to Sgt. Matthew Neu of Manatee County, Florida for reminding us to pray for president Obama.  Sgt. Matthew Neu's prayer, now known as the Obama prayer is really powerful:

May his days be few; may another take his office.
                                                   Psalm 109:8

That is a good and honorable prayer for it is taken from the context of the psalmist pleading for God to protect him from his enemies and to bring due justice to the oppressor.  Obama is clearly an enemy of America, so let every Christian in America pray that God cut is days in office as short as possible.

Of course the Psalmist does not leave this judgment at the office, he pleads that God invoke judgment on the man, his family and even his grandchildren.  I wish obama and kin no harm, but I do think he should be put out to pasture.  Obama has already caused too much damage to a country he does not love.

14 Days to Improvement in Bed

Maybe the previous post revealed that your sexual experience with your spouse is not what it should be.  Then it is time to take some steps toward improvement.   Can you stay focused for 14 days?  Then your formula for success is 14 days to better sex.

40 things you should know about sex...

by the age of 40.  You might know these 40 things, but maybe you have become complacent.  Better brush up if you want to stay on top of your game and give maximum pleasure to your spouse.

Socyberty

Have you ever heard of Socyberty?  Maybe not.  I write articles for a site called Triond.  Once an article is published it is placed on one of several sites and Socyberty is one of those sites.  Socyberty includes articles of all kinds dealing with things in our society.

For instance, on Socyberty you can read about the Conference of National White Churches here.

Cuba - Not So Great

The progressives want to make people dependent on government.  They naively believe that is a good thing, but the only purpose it accomplishes is the securing of votes.  If you want to see the progressive dream country, look to Cuba.  One of the idiots even made a movie about the health care system in Cuba - claiming it was better than American health care.

The people of Cuba are heavily dependent on government aid, including food coupon books.  Recently the government decided to stop giving coupons for some items such as soap and toothpaste.  Now the people will pay 10 to 15 times as much for those items, and that is a big deal on their limited incomes.

The ideas of the progressives are destructive to America, and are the opposite of what caused our country to prosper in the past.

The Associate

The Associate
by John Grisham

John Grisham teaches  about billable hours:

This is a really interesting look at how big law firms use and abuse associates.  An associate is a new law school graduate with little experience with the firm.  Of course, these rookies are presented with significant challenges to weed out those who are not strong enough.  The entire time this process is going on, the associates are racking up billable hours.  The most important goal for an associate seems to be racking up the highest number of billable hours possible.  This allows the law firm to charge their clients huge amounts.  The more associates they can use in this way only increases their profit.

There is a similar abuse of billable hours by the partners of the firm.  They actually believe that the company expects to be billed at a certain rate, less it looks like they are not working hard to support the client.

John Grisham writes quite a novel.

Don't get me wrong.  This book is really good and the plot is more than enough to keep your attention.  A young lawyer has his life turned upside down when he is blackmailed over an earlier indiscretion.  This associate must be creative in attempts to save his neck and hopefully save his job.  Somethings work out, and some things don't  Read it and find out.
